TANYA RIVARD
PROFESSOR
Montreal native, Tanya Rivard discovers dance through the legendary and reputable New-Yorker Ethel Bruneau who brings to Quebec the American Tap Dance (named 'hoofing' or 'rhythm tap') in the '50s. From under the supervision of her mentor, Tanya becomes a professor herself, and traveling regularly to the main city in New York, she improves alongside master artists and their prodigies. In 1992, at age 7, she is named Top Junior Dancer at the Stars of Dance Competition and debuts on television in a talent show, The Home Grown Café. En 1998, Tanya attended the Montreal International Jazz Festival and won a gold and a platinum medal at the Pick the Stars Competition. The artist was invited to the Eastern Canadian Tap Conference in Toronto (2006 to 2008), she also participated in the Tap City Showcase of New York in 2008 for the creation of a choreography piece for Cirque du Soleil and the Edmonton Fringe Festival. She is currently Assistant-Choreographer and Administrative Director for the Montreal-founded company Dynamix Sales which is managed by Travis Knights. Tanya has the pleasure to create by using her knowledge of Latin dance, mambo, jazz and modern. She also choreographs for Artmistice, a new multi-dance group. In 2005, she integrates herself to the professorial corps of the Conservatoire de danse de Montréal and maintains the reigns at the opening of the Ballet Théâtral de Montréal.
