The "Danseur Relève" category presents four main types of dance courses : classical, jazz, modern and tap dance. Different levels within these styles are also offered according to the demand, the experience level of registered students, their ability to execute and the availability of studios. Each dance style has its own qualities and will develop within the dancer aptitudes he will be able to appreciate. These styles are complementary and none of them can enter in conflict with an other, since our training methods are fully compatible from one style to the other.
Truly the best starting point when aiming at forming the body and imparting it grace and precision is without a doubt, the classical technique. Older than 350 years old, its present codification still remains a reference point for any professional dancer. Adapted to the needs of our student, his age and experience level, our classical dance course assure the student a meticulous training on the posture and placement in the movement, an efficient learning of the steps and a greater physical command.
The rigor of the work at the barre followed by center adagios (series of slow movements to train one on balance and strength), turns and jumps, the exactitude of the ports de bras and the gradual approach of the style can't help but enriched the student in all respects. Through the years, the classical dance has shaped the nicest bodies, produce the greatest execution and embellish each gesture with unheard of refinement.
Principally based on the fundamentals of the origins of the classical dance as taught in French academic schools, our pedagogic vision along with our concern for the wellbeing of the person has led us to conceive course programs that will both provide a superior quality as far as technique goes and total satisfaction as far as the human aspect goes. It is well known that classical dance leading to ballet (danced production, presentation where choreographed dances predominates) has proven its efficiency and is used days in and days out in the creation of classical ballet, contemporary ballet or for entertainment ballet.
I make a move . . . denote the audacity to do something with motivation. The "Danseur Relève" is at the age of deciding for himself and to choose the activity that suits him. When he chooses classical dance, it is by making a move straight ahead that he will obtain the best results. Perseverance, assiduity and awareness will make all the difference. That physical advantages or natural artistic talents exist or not to make the task easier, every students, all things being equal, must work hard to acquire the benefit they are entitled to. This sense of accomplishment makes the adolescent or the young adult more mature, more able to perform, prouder of himself than the person who will not make a move.
Our course program includes the whole set of exercises at the barre, in the center and in motion while covering the teaching of steps and every elements essential to every level : beginner / elementary / intermediate / advance. (Please refer to the different courses offered for this session, within the three age groups of Relève.) Also possible : a pilot project is in the wings aiming at putting in place an examination formula that will assure truly personalized and satisfactory training for everyone who qualifies.

The releasing of your physical energy through the movements, the pure pleasure of dancing and the boisterous rhythm are at the origin of the popularity of the jazz style. Nothing like a good jazz course to put into use one's technical qualities, to learn how to really move and to coordinate the various physical parts of one's body, to push further the audacity of turns and jumps and to tame choreographic elements.
Influenced by the various cultural changes, the jazz, a growing American phenomenon, going from lyrical to funky, from the African culture to showbiz, from the rigor of the classical to the revolutionary flavor of contemporary. The jazz, that the coveted technique comes from the street or from renown choreographers, calls for basic principles which definitely deserves to be known and well taught to the benefit of an incomparable way to move from head to toes...
I make a move ... denotes the feat of giving one's maximum while dancing. Making a move, as a dancer, brings about such a satisfaction level that one becomes unable to live without it. The "Danseur Relève" is able to work on that line and will release, to his advantage, the ardor of his youth and his capacities. Even if jazz is sometimes synonym of carelessness, when considering technical precision, it is nevertheless undeniable that an adequate jazz course program delivered with well done training will give the student everything he needs to progress advantageously. The jazz dance will never replace classical dance, but when both combined, they will produce a dancer totally suited for the scene.
A typical jazz lesson is made of several warm up exercises for the center, the barre and the floor, accent being put on coordination, on the learning of jazz walks and other "steps", on the jumps sequences and pirouettes as well as the demonstration of one's understanding of the style through choreographed sequences.
JAZZ DANCE : 13 WEEKS SESSION
Modern dance is the principal technical base of what the professional field calls : the contemporary dance. Its unique character resides in the use of the trunk within the move (in contrast with the classical dance where the trunk axis remains vertical), in the fluidity of the gesture (contrary to jazz which is rather jerky) and in the relation between the weight of the body and gravity. Born from creative movements and the free improvisation dating back to the beginning of the XXe century, modern dance has become a technique in its own rights which can kindle the maturity and awareness of a dancer in the most remarkable way. Its contemporary character places it in a position of constant evolution, thus feeding vocabulary and imagination to artists.
I make a move ... denotes the character of the one who creates relentlessly. Even if creation does not really follow strict rules as such, it does requires a certain inspiration. The well trained dancer will provide that inspiration to choreographer, as he knows how to move without restrictions. This is where modern dance comes in to soften, complete and push further one's baggage of information and training on classical dance.
Our modern dance classes require a classical base and are inspired from the Humphrey-Limon technique in a contemporary approach as far as the work at the barre, center and floor goes. We insist on the typical line of that aspect of the dance, on the originality just as much as on the efficiency of the composition and on the ability to master the contrasts. In other words, just as you have to be precise, you also have to know how to let go; just as you have to know how take a move by surprise, you also have to know how to fall; just as you have to be linear, you also have to be able to be fluid... It is no doubt that such a quantity of subtle details in a language cannot be absorbed without a baggage of knowledge well in place ahead of time on the fundamentals essential to any types of movement.
Rhythm, sounds and footwork brings utter pleasure when one wants to develop quick-wittedness and the sense of rhythmic. Marrying dance with percussion, the tap dance course, requiring shoes with metal plates, bring us this little "American side" to the sphere of dance which has helped promote music-halls, cinema and television. Despite the "glamour" aspect which was mainly imparted by Broadway, tap dance remains no less than a enthusiastic gathering experience where everyone add his own variant to the basic rhythm which becomes more and more complex, more and more inviting and more and more audacious. Tap dance is therefore the perfect complement to classical, jazz and modern dance due to the resulting improvement of legs and feet agility combined with the understanding of sounds and music.
I make a move ... denotes the ideal way to view a dance training line up. Ending with tap dance, the physical training received through the other technical dance courses, the dancer avails himself of a genuine grasp of the principal current mainstream of theatric dance (dance aiming for stage productions). That training, weather professional or amateur, is thereby truly valuable, versatile and beneficial. Tap dance is unique when it comes to mastering the speed of execution and precision of hits on the floor.
Our tap dance classes starts with feet warm up, taking up the different basic steps and gradually becoming more and more complex and varied, it then evolves by combining standard rhythm, either choreographed or improvised. To that is added, based on the levels, different play on different stage styles : music-hall, afro, Irish, etc...
The term "Relève" defines adolescents and young adults age groups.
Relève 1 principally regroups 11 to 13 years old students; Relève 2, 14 to 16 years old students; Relève 3, students of 17 years old and above. This is a flexible and approximative classification method. Note that the term "Relève" does not indicate the level of the course.
The term "Niveau" (Level) defines the degree of experience or command of the subject. Each school has its own way of conceiving and grading what various niveaux consist of.
The idea is to see that the student is classified according to his actual capacities and thus can move forward properly. The four niveaux are : beginner / elementary / intermediate / advanced.
It is not uncommon to have more than one age group within a same niveau.
Example of how this goes : R 1 - 2 Elementary classical dance
Here "R 1 - 2" means Relève 1 and 2, which is two age groups combined together, which means we can expect to have two different age group students, thus from 11 to 16 years old.
Classical dance is the style taught, so classical dance.
Elementary is the approximate level of the course is elementary, meaning that the student should have at least a few years of experience and a good grasp as well as command of the basics.
